How to Get Your 5 a Day

How to Get Your 5 a Day

Getting your 5 a day can sometimes sound daunting. But there are actually so many ways to incorporate fruit and vegetables into your diet easily and without too much thought. We have included our top tips for getting your 5 a day here:

  • Plan your meals: Take a few minutes each week to plan your meals and snacks. This allows you to ensure you include a variety of fruits and vegetables in your diet.
  • Include fruits and vegetables in every meal: Try to include at least one serving of fruits or vegetables in each meal. For example, add berries to your breakfast, include a salad with lunch, and incorporate a variety of vegetables into your dinner.
  • Snack on fruits and vegetables: Instead of reaching for processed snacks, opt for fresh fruits or cut-up vegetables. Keep a bowl of fruit on the counter or a container of cut-up veggies in the fridge for easy access. This will be so much easier if you choose to opt for one of our fruit boxes!
  • Blend them into smoothies: Smoothies are a great way to combine multiple fruits and vegetables into one delicious drink. Experiment with different combinations to find your favourite flavours.
  • Try new recipes: Explore different recipes that incorporate a variety of fruits and vegetables. Experimenting with new flavours and cooking methods can make eating them more enjoyable. Our selection of Family Friendly Dinners have vegetable-packed meals even your fussiest eaters can get on board with.
How to Get Your Children Eating More Fruit

How to Get Your Children Eating More Fruit

Getting children to eat more food can often be a struggle. Even though they are often dubbed 'nature's candy', it’s sometimes hard to get your toddlers and little ones to feel the same way. When you have fussy eaters wanting to eat only chicken nuggets or chocolate, it can be hard worrying about how they are going to get all the nutrients they need to grow up happy and healthy. We have put together some tips on getting your little ones to eat more fruit - even if it means having to be sneaky about it!

  • Lead by example: Children are more likely to try new foods if they see their parents or caregivers enjoying them. Make sure you incorporate a variety of fruits into your own diet and express your enjoyment.
  • Make it fun: Present fruits in creative and appealing ways. Use cookie cutters to create fun shapes, make fruit skewers, or arrange fruit into smiley faces. The more engaging and enjoyable the presentation, the more likely children are to try it.
  • Involve them in the process: Take your children grocery shopping and let them choose fruits they'd like to try. Involve them in the preparation, such as washing, peeling, or cutting fruits. When children feel a sense of ownership and participation, they are more likely to be interested in trying the food.
  • Offer a variety: Introduce a wide range of fruits, including different colours, textures, and flavours. This not only provides a nutritional variety but also allows children to find fruits they genuinely enjoy. This will be so much easier with one of our fruit boxes, as it can be exciting unpacking it with your little ones if you choose to get it each week.
  • Make it a dessert: Serve fresh fruit as a dessert option. You can create fruit salads, serve fruit with a dollop of yoghurt, or make simple fruit parfaits.
  • Create a fruit routine: Incorporate fruit into daily routines, such as having a fruit bowl on the kitchen counter or including fruit as a snack after school. Consistency can help make fruits a natural part of their diet.
